I just opened my SOD Insider email and there was a letter from a lady that had a fan encounter with Brian at his Best Friend's Event. I actually remember
hearing about this.
My daughter, Megan, and I had an encounter with Brian Gaskill (ex-Rafe, PC et al) and thought it was so incredible that we should pass it on. It was six years ago, about six months before PORT CHARLES went off the air. We attended a charity event he hosted for a animal shelter he loves; he had a auction of items and things he would do for the highest bidder.... I was bidding on everything that came up, from a picture with him in Soap Opera Digest, right to the personal phone call from him. I wanted to do something for my daughter because to see her eyes light up the way they did when she saw him took me back to my young teen crush on John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH). I was outbid on every, single thing that was offered. As much as I wanted to get a [gift] for her, I couldn't justify to my husband spending over $500 for someone to call on the phone. Let me just say that what was about to happen was nothing I could have imagined. In a time where you see so many bad things happening, it's strange to believe that someone will do something for someone else of this kind of magnitude.... Well, he noticed my bidding and my constant losing so he had his manager pull me aside, away from my daughter, and asked if he could call her for her 12th birthday, which was due to come in about a month. I couldn't believe it. Free of charge. It amazed me that he even noticed, but let me tell you, he is such a special human being to do that. It was so very hard to keep it a secret, but I knew what it would do for my girl. I can still not only see it in my mind today, but I had secretly set up my video recorder and got the call on tape so we can watch it. Needless to say, he made one girl so incredibly happy and one mother so impressed and appreciative with just even the offer and then to do it, he is one in a million. I didn't take it for granted either, I made a pretty decent donation to the charity in hopes that it does as much good for the animals as it did for our family.
